Virtual Walk a Mile in Her Shoes 2020
Sep 3 @ 12:00 am – Sep 14 @ 12:00 am

Please join us for our 8th Annual Walk A Mile In Her Shoes Virtual event!

Every year in the U.S., an estimated 12 million men and women are victims of rape, physical violence and stalking by an intimate partner. We are walking 12 miles in 12 days to honor those victims. In other words, we’re walking a mile a day!

Register for our walk and set your goal of walking one mile a day. Also set a fundraising goal! Every penny you raise goes directly to Women In Need to help us provide services for victims in Franklin and Fulton Counties. Plus, you’ll earn some cool prizes!

Anyone can register for this event, and registration is pay-what-you-want by donation. By registering, you’ll also get set up with your own fundraising page that you can share!
Starting Thursday, September 3rd through Monday, September 14, track your steps with ChallengeRunner. Aim to get at least 2,000 steps a day.
At the end of the challenge, the person who gets the most steps will win a gift basket full of awesome goodies! Those who participate in fundraising/donating will also win some cool prizes based on how much they raise.
Prize tiers (prizes are cumulative):
-$10 to $24- WAM 2020 mask
-$25 to $74- WAM 2020 t-shirt
-$75 to $99- WAM water bottle
-$100 to $199- WAM tote bag
-$200 to $299- Entry to win GrubHub and Doordash Gift card bundle
-$300 to $399- Entry for quarantine-themed prize basket (fun games and goodies you can do from the safety of your own home)
-$400 to $499- Entry for fitness tracker drawing
-$500 plus- Entry for tablet drawing
*If you previously registered before when the walk was to take place in-person, please know that your registration will still count towards the virtual event.*
Thank you for being patient with us as we work to navigate the best way to host this event while ensuring the safety of all participants, volunteers, and staff. We sincerely hope to see you in-person again for the walk next year!

Assessing Domestic Violence & Lethality in Domestic Abuse Conflicts

Sponsored by Women In Need, Inc.

Presented By: Juanita Sprenkle Jones, MHS, CJSOTS, NCCE

Juanita Sprenkle Jones is the Program Coordinator for SpiriTrust Lutheran Domestic Abuse Solutions in York, Pennsylvania and has over twenty years of experience working with men who batter and control their intimate partner. Also, Juanita does individual therapy, couples counseling and is a custody evaluator for custody cases that involve domestic violence.

This two-day presentation will take a look at predicting lethality in domestic violence relationships and discussing characteristics that are red flags for domestic violence and for recidivism. This presentation will also identify common characteristics of those who are abusive in their attempts to control a partner and who might escalate the control tactics to physical violence. Tools to predict risk and lethality will be examined as well as additional tools for safety planning. In addition, this presentation will take a look at understanding how gender affects the use of force in relationships. The Batterer as a Parent and the Change Process for Abusive Men @ Online

The Batterer as a Parent and the Change Process for Abusive Men

Sponsored by Women In Need, Inc.

**Sorry for the inconvenience, but due to popularity of this training, we have reached capacity and had to close registration early. Please stay tuned for any and all upcoming events. Thank you!**

This two-day presentation will take a look at “The Batterer As Parent.” We will establish the profile of men who abuse women, describe the power dynamics and the psychologically poisoned atmosphere that an abuser creates for children in the home. We will examine the impact the batterer has on the parenting of the abused women, and look at “The change Process for Abusive Men.” We will also look at the elements of change, including consequences, education, confrontation, and accountability. A checklist will be reviewed for assessing whether an abuser has made meaningful progress in overcoming his abuse issues, with some explanation of how to detect false claims of change. We will also discuss specific roles professionals can play in contributing to change and accountability for abusers.

Presented By: Lundy Bancroft
Lundy Bancroft has over thirty years’ experience specializing in interventions for abusive men and their families. He has authored six books, including the world’s best seller on domestic violence, Why Does He Do that? And prizewinning professional book The Batterer as Parent.
