Strangulation with Angela Weekes
Nov 18 @ 9:00 am – 3:00 pm

Strangulation has been identified as one of the most lethal forms of domestic violence and sexual assault. Unconsciousness may occur within seconds and death within minutes. When domestic violence perpetrators choke (strangle) their victims, not only is this felonious assault, but it may be an attempted homicide. This training will focus on the background of strangulation investigations. We will cover topics such as the mechanism of injury, evidence documentation, working with victims, and scene investigation.

WHEN: November18, 2021 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Adult Victims of Violence: Why Don’t They Know Better?
Dec 10 @ 9:00 am – 3:00 pm

This 6-hour training will address the numerous weapons offenders use to ensure their success, exposing the ways they manipulate their victims and the community,   means they use to get the victim to respond in a way that protects the offender, and the specific weapons they use to camouflage and confuse those investigating and prosecuting sexual offenses. This will include (mis)use of the relationship with the victim, use of alcohol to facilitate rape, institutional abuse and use of status by the offender, and manipulation of victim response to assault (production of “counterintuitive” behavior).

WHEN: December 10, 2021 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

WHERE: Zoom

COST: FREE

Digital Stalking & Other Technology Threats for Victims of Domestic Violence
Jun 16 @ 9:00 am – 3:00 pm

This 6-hour training, provided by Rob Soop, is a unique and eye-opening class for prosecutors, law enforcement, victim
advocates, school personnel and anyone working in the judicial system who wants to
learn more on how everyday technologies are being used (or misused) to avoid or
detect investigations, stalk someone, or learn personal details about a person and
their families. Not only will this class examine and demonstrate how individuals are
unwittingly providing information about themselves and their activities, it will also reveal
the ways perpetrators are accessing the information. Most importantly, the
training provides investigative tools and simple, inexpensive ways to help mitigate that
loss and protect the information.

*Rob Soop is a retired Supervisory Special Agent with the Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General Computer Forensics Unit, and the Founder Lead Consultant for Specialized Investigative Consultants.*

WHEN: June 16, 2022 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
