Walk a Mile In Her Shoes @ King Street Church
May 5 @ 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm

It’s not just a women’s issue!

WIN’s fifth annual walk will take place on Friday, May 5, 2017 and, again, we need your help! We’re looking for men to don a pair of bright red high heels and walk just 6 blocks along Main Street in Downtown Chambersburg.

Register below as an individual walker or as a team of up to 4 walkers. Registration fee includes a Walk a Mile t-shirt and the use of high-heels during the walk.

Don’t forget to get sponsors!

A big part of this event is getting sponsors to donate to your walk! Tell others that you are walking to raise awareness about sexual violence and all the money raised will go to support Women In Need’s programs and services to help victims.

Use the Sponsor page to get friends, family, and co-workers to pledge money. Set a personal goal for how much you want to raise and try to reach your goal!

Collect money from sponsors before the event and either bring them to Women In Need or to the event! The individual and team who raise the most money will be recognized with their very own Walk A Mile plague to display and brag about.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Q: How much does it cost to participate?
A: Registration fees cost $20 for an Individual Walker and $15 for Team Members. The registration fee includes a Walk a Mile t-shirt and the use of WIN’s high-heels during the event. We also ask that walkers collect sponsorships for the walk.

Q: How do I collect sponsorships?
A: It’s easy! Download the Sponsorship form above and use it to help you raise money. Set a personal goal about how much you want to raise and get out there! Talk to your friends, family, co-workers, neighbors, church members, etc. and tell them that you are walking to raise awareness about sexual violence. Collect any money that people pledge and you can either bring it to Women In Need or bring it to the event.

Q: Our team has more than 4 people. Can we still be a team?
A: Teams are up to 4 people. But you can split up into more than one team and make it a competition!

Q: Can females participate?
A: Registration is open only to males, but women can participate in other ways. This year, we are encouraging women to wear red flat shoes and walk alongside the men in heels to show solidarity. They can also come out to cheer you on and sponsor you.

Assessing Domestic Violence & Lethality in Intimate Relationships

Sponsored by Women In Need, Inc.

Presented By: Juanita Sprenkle Jones, MHS, CJSOTS, NCCE

Juanita Sprenkle Jones is the Program Coordinator for SpiriTrust Lutheran Domestic Abuse Solutions in York, Pennsylvania and has over twenty years of experience working with men who batter and control their intimate partner. Also, Juanita does individual therapy, couples counseling and is a custody evaluator for custody cases that involve domestic violence.

This presentation will take a look at predicting lethality in domestic violence relationships and discussing characteristics that are red flags for domestic violence and for recidivism. This workshop will also identify common characteristics of those who are abusive in their attempts to control a partner and who might escalate the control tactics to physical violence. Tools to predict risk and lethality will be examined as well as additional tools for safety planning. In addition, this workshop will take a look at understanding how gender affects the use of force in relationships. Become familiar with the interactive connection between entitlement and escalated risk of violence or lethality in intimate partner relationships and custody disputes.
