WIN’s fifth annual walk will take place on Friday, May 5, 2017 and, again, we need your help! We’re looking for men to don a pair of bright red high heels and walk just 6 blocks along Main Street in Downtown Chambersburg.
Register below as an individual walker or as a team of up to 4 walkers. Registration fee includes a Walk a Mile t-shirt and the use of high-heels during the walk.

A big part of this event is getting sponsors to donate to your walk! Tell others that you are walking to raise awareness about sexual violence and all the money raised will go to support Women In Need’s programs and services to help victims.

Q: How much does it cost to participate?
A: Registration fees cost $20 for an Individual Walker and $15 for Team Members. The registration fee includes a Walk a Mile t-shirt and the use of WIN’s high-heels during the event. We also ask that walkers collect sponsorships for the walk.
Q: How do I collect sponsorships?
A: It’s easy! Download the Sponsorship form above and use it to help you raise money. Set a personal goal about how much you want to raise and get out there! Talk to your friends, family, co-workers, neighbors, church members, etc. and tell them that you are walking to raise awareness about sexual violence. Collect any money that people pledge and you can either bring it to Women In Need or bring it to the event.
Q: Our team has more than 4 people. Can we still be a team?
A: Teams are up to 4 people. But you can split up into more than one team and make it a competition!
Q: Can females participate?
A: Registration is open only to males, but women can participate in other ways. This year, we are encouraging women to wear red flat shoes and walk alongside the men in heels to show solidarity. They can also come out to cheer you on and sponsor you.

Assessing Domestic Violence & Lethality in Intimate Relationships

Presented By: Juanita Sprenkle Jones, MHS, CJSOTS, NCCE
Juanita Sprenkle Jones is the Program Coordinator for SpiriTrust Lutheran Domestic Abuse Solutions in York, Pennsylvania and has over twenty years of experience working with men who batter and control their intimate partner. Also, Juanita does individual therapy, couples counseling and is a custody evaluator for custody cases that involve domestic violence.
This presentation will take a look at predicting lethality in domestic violence relationships and discussing characteristics that are red flags for domestic violence and for recidivism. This workshop will also identify common characteristics of those who are abusive in their attempts to control a partner and who might escalate the control tactics to physical violence. Tools to predict risk and lethality will be examined as well as additional tools for safety planning. In addition, this workshop will take a look at understanding how gender affects the use of force in relationships. Become familiar with the interactive connection between entitlement and escalated risk of violence or lethality in intimate partner relationships and custody disputes.

Near-Fatal Strangulation Training

Presented By: Casey Gwinn, Esq.
Casey Gwinn spent the first ten years of his career in San Diego as a Deputy City Attorney creating one of the leading Domestic Violence Units in America and then served as the elected City Attorney for 8 years. He led the effort to open the San Diego Family Justice Center, a multi-agency collaborative designed to serve victims of domestic violence and their children and he helped lead the President’s Family Justice Center Initiative for President George Bush. Today, Casey is the visionary behind the Family Justice Center movement and Camp HOPE America, the first evidence-based camping and mentoring program in the country for children impacted by child abuse and domestic violence.

About Toru Sato
Toru Sato received his Ph.D. in Psychology at York University in Canada. He is currently a Professor at Shippensburg University and is passionate about learning and teaching about emotions, human relationships, consciousness, and spirituality. He is the author of “The Ever-Transcending Spirit” and is currently working on new book about meditation. He enjoys working with individuals on their personal development and often incorporates meditative techniques into his work with them. He has also had the privilege to facilitate many meditation sessions at Shippensburg University as well as the neighboring community since 2011.

Combating Human Trafficking: A Cross-Systems Trauma-Informed Approach to Investigations, Prosecutions, and Victim Services

Shea M. Rhodes, Esq. has dedicated her career to combating violence against women, protecting the rights of those who are oppressed or exploited, and championing human rights. She is the statewide legal expert on Pennsylvania laws related to sex trafficking and commercial sexual exploitation. As the Co-Founder and Director of the Institute to Address Commercial Sexual Exploitation (CSE Institute) at Villanova University Charles Widger School of Law, Ms. Rhodes works with and on behalf of victims and survivors of commercial sexual exploitation and human trafficking.
Detective Les Glauner has been a police officer with the Upper Merion Township Police Department, King of Prussia, PA for 18 years. He has been in the investigations division of the police department for 13 years. Detective Glauner is assigned to investigate juvenile related crimes, sexual exploitation of children, abuser against children, and human trafficking. He is currently cross sworn with the Philadelphia FBI’s Violent Crimes Against Children Task Force, and is a nationally board HT Investigator through the McAfee Institute.
As Director of Anti-Trafficking for the Salvation Army, Jamie Manirakiza engages in community outreach and uses her extensive background in and knowledge of clinical and macro social work to provide a wide range of comprehensive services for victims of human trafficking. Most notably, Ms. Manirakiza supervises all of the New Day to Stop Trafficking (NDST) Anti-Trafficking efforts for the Salvation Army in Greater Philadelphia. Her responsibilities include managing funding, seeking federal and local grants, supervising staff and developing programs. The NDST program includes working with women suffering from various forms of the commercial sex industry from on the ground services at the New Day Drop-in Center for women in Kensington, to Family Court accompaniment with juvenile survivors of HT. Most recently Ms Manirakiza has worked with the New Day team to open up a residential program for female survivors of trafficking.

Q: Can we make signs or posters to carry?
A: Yes! We encourage you or your team to get creative! You can make signs showing your or your organization’s best anti-rape slogan or have team shirts, buttons, etc. However, all signs, shirts, etc. must be appropriate for the event and event staff have the right to not allow profane, vulgar, or inappropriate materials during the walk. Some examples of good slogans are:
- Don’t just talk the talk; walk the walk
- Rape is not OK
- Yes means Yes!
- Consent: Did you get it?
- Real Men Don’t Rape
- We [Team or Organization] Don’t Tolerate Sexual Violence!

What is Purple Purse?
Purple Purse is an online fundraising competition. Agencies across the country compete to earn the most donations and complete challenges to earn bonus cash prizes. The agency that receives the most donations also wins the $100,000 prize!
Where does the money go?
100% of donations received on our campaign page goes directly to Women In Need. Allstate is also giving away $265,000 in cash prizes, including the grand prize of $100,000 to the agency who raises the most.
Can I give WIN cash or a check for Purple Purse?
Unfortunately, no. Purple Purse is an online fundraiser and all donations toward the event must be made through our campaign page. Click on the button below to go to our page.
Can I raise money for WIN?
Yes! If you go to our campaign page, you can click Join Team. Friends, family, and co-workers can then donate to your team without you having to worry about collecting any monies! All donations your team receives will come directly to WIN.
