Sexual assault is a scary and uncomfortable topic, but avoiding the discussion altogether will not help the issue improve. Awareness is important, so that our community is more equipped to prevent further assault, hold perpetrators accountable, and support victims.
April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month – a time to learn more about this specific issue in our community, our country, and our world. You may see an increase in social media posts about the issue or even some local events themed toward sexual assault in April. But, at the end of the month, it can be easy to move on and forget what you’ve learned.
This year, use the knowledge you gain throughout April to join the cause toward prevention and awareness. Check out some of the resources below for some ideas of how you can get involved, learn more, or get support for a past assault. Join the cause to make our communities safer for all.

Mark your calendar for May 5th, 2023, for our next Walk a Mile in Her Shoes event!
You know the old adage, “you don’t know what someone is going through until you walk a mile in their shoes.” This event brings that old saying to life! Local men and boys will almost literally walk a mile in the shoes of women and sexual assault victims by putting on a pair of red heels and walk together in Downtown Chambersburg. Through your support, we can raise awareness of sexual violence in our community and raise funds for WIN Victim Services.
Participate in 3 simple steps:
- Register – Sign up by clicking the link below! You will receive a confirmation email and instructions on how to get sponsors and prepare for the walk.
- Fundraise – Ask friends, family, and your community to sponsor your walk. This is a crucial part of participating. All proceeds go directly to WIN.
- Walk – Show up for check-in on the day of the event, receive your pair of heels, and walk downtown. Tell friends and family to come watch you and support the event!
**NEW THIS YEAR: The walker who raises the most sponsorship money will win a GRAND PRIZE that includes the following items: $100 in cash donated by In & Out Beverage, $50 gift card to Liquid Art Brewing Company, $50 Butcher Bucks for The Butcher Shoppe, and a $25 gift card to Legendz Bar!
Check in begins at 5pm. Walk begins at 6pm.
Registration is now open!
